"Creativity, Innovation, People" conference: the regional dimension, 8 and 9 July 2009.

Main objective of EYCI flagship conferences is to highlight the importance of creativity and innovation for Europe, in particular in the context of crisis, and the added value of EU policies to stimulate and foster their development. Three key themes have been chosen during the second flagship conference: employment, well-being and education. There are clear links between all three and needs for well inter-connected approaches.


Jan Figel, Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth opened the conference. After this session, several parallel tracks, some by means of presentations, were addressed:
  • 'Innovation and Employment'
    - Services Innovation - The role of Government (
    Gov UK, department for business, innovation & skills);
    - Promoting and showcasing digital creativity , innovation and talent;
    - A platform for developing creativity and economy
    - A new digital community promoting innovation and experimentation
    (Silicon Sentier, Living Lab 2e arrondissement, Paris)

  • 'Innovation and Education'
    - Creativity and partnerships: ten years on
    - Inspiration, creativity, innovation: fostering entrepreneurial creativity (Flanders DC)
    - Motivation, fun, innovation: a succesful competition for ideas (
    Jugend Innovativ)
    - The school of the future (Grontmij KUB-team)

During the first track, Watershed promoted and showcased digital creativity, innovation and talent. This company is a media center housed in the former industrial warehouses on Bristol's harbourside, and promotes creativity, collaboration, innovation and participation from cultural, commercial and community sectors. It is a facilitator, a hub and a catalyst for creative industries offering a wide range of cultural programmes and cross-sector partnerships.

Also the platform for developing creativity and economy Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya contributed to the first track's theme Innovation and Employment'. The main objective of the project is to encourage industrial activity and the creation of new businesses in the audiovisual industry.
